A Nightclub, Club Illusions, in Alabama was reportedly used by a conman to scam seven hundred Lil Wayne fans into handing over a total of around $45,000 for tickets to a performance by the rapper that didn’t exist.
Managers for the club say that a man who claimed to be called Tony Lee and an unidentified associate rented the nightclub on Saturday night (June 21th) to host a performance by rapper Lil Wayne.
According to reports by NBC 15, Tony Lee and the unidentified associate told the club that they were employees of Coastal Boy Entertainment and signed a contract with the club for the rental.
On Saturday night, the club was filled with 700 Lil Wayne fans eager to see the rapper perform and at around 1:00 am fans started to confront the clubs security over the fact that the Hip-Hop artist hadn’t shown up.
The clubs security were assured by Tony Lee that Lil Wayne was on his way to the venue but when the crowd began to become angered Lee and his unidentified associate fled the scene taking the $45,000 from ticket sales with them.
Surveillance cameras at Club Illusions captured Tony Lee and his associate stealing money from the Club’s cash box just before they fled.
“We got scammed real bad,” The club’s manager, Esa Jones said. “It looked planned, they printed tickets, had radio advertisements, ticket locations, it [all looked] so legit.”
Police are now investigating the incident and to make it up to the fans who bought tickets to the perfomance Club Illusions are holding free customer appreciation concerts.
